Time for some more "this and that"

We've run across some interesting tidbits of info for you from the March issue of
Government Technology:

  • We've all heard stories of pedestrians having accidents due to texting and other technology distractions. Well a few states are starting to take action. In New York, a bill was pending that would ban the use of mobile devices while crossing the street. Oregon and Virginia had bills pending that would restrict bicyclists from using cell phones and music players. In California, lawmakers were considering fining multitasking bicyclists $20.

  • 31% of U.S. mobile subscribers use a smartphone, according to Nielsen.

  • What do all those subscribers do with their smartphones? Most popular app varieties are games-60%, weather/news-52%, maps/navigation-51%, social networking-47%, and music-43%.

  • By 2015, it's predicted that there will be an equal number of mobile devices and human beings on Earth, according to a Cisco report. That means more than 7.1 billion cell phones and mobile devices--I don't think it'll take too long for them to outnumber us!

  • Some news about Internet use in China: there were about 457 million Internet users in China in 2010. Roughly one-third of the population uses the Internet.
